Mutual Fund Report for the year 2016

AUM Movement category wise, M-o-M, AMC wise, to the amount of Funds mobilized through NFOs to the Net inflows during the year across categories. Read on to know how the year that went did. 

1) The Y-o-Y basis Assets Under Management (AUM) of the mutual fund (MF) industry increased by 29.14% (by Rs. 371,502 crore) to Rs. 16.46 lakh crore in December 2016 compared with December 2015. It witnessed a 0.22% decline in December 2016, however, until November category wise AUM witnessed a sequential rise. The month of November saw a rise of 1.29% (by Rs. 21,035 crores).

The Q-o-Q basis AUM grew by 4.19% (by Rs. 66,261 crores) as on December 2016 as compared to September 2016. Highest rise (26.80%) was witnessed by ETFs (except Gold ETFs) followed by Balanced Fund category which saw a rise of 14.32%. 

Gold ETFs saw highest fall in AUM followed by FoF investing overseas on QoQ basis. 

The M-o-M basis AUM of all categories witnessed rise except Income, Gilts, ELSS and Gold ETFs which witnessed fall. Liquid funds saw highest rise in AUM, while Income Funds saw highest fall in AUM. 

2) Among all the categories Liquid and Fund of Funds categories witnessed net outflows, while others witnessed net inflows. Net inflow in the industry stood at Rs 10,923 crore in December 2016, against net inflows of Rs. 36,021 crore in November 2016. 

The year 2016 saw highest inflows in Income Fund followed by Equity Funds, while Gilt Funds registered highest outflows. 

3) Funds mobilized from 18 newly launched schemes in December stood at Rs. 3,403 crore (16 Close ended & 2 Open ended ).

Funds mobilized from NFOs during the year 2016 are Rs. 36,306 crore.

4) AUM of Equity Funds saw the following movement



Equity Funds witnessed a Net Inflow of Rs. 46,337 crore from January to December 2016 out of which April to December 2016 Net inflows stood at Rs. 45,781 crore.

5) AUM of ELSS Funds saw the following movement



ELSS Funds witnessed a Net Inflow of Rs. 8,538 crore from January to December 2016 out of which April to December 2016 Net inflows stood at Rs. 5,028 crore.

Therefore, Equity Funds witnessed a Net Inflow of Rs. 54,875 crore out of the total Net Inflows of Rs. 286,312 crore from January to December 2016.

6) AUM of Balanced Funds saw the following movement



Balanced Funds witnessed a Net Inflow of Rs. 24,691 crore from January to December 2016 out of which April to December 2016 Net inflows stood at Rs. 22,792 crore.

7) AUM of Income Funds saw the following movement



Income Funds witnessed a Net Inflow of Rs. 137,469 crore from January to December 2016 out of which April to December 2016 Net inflows stood at Rs. 137,428 crore.

However, this category saw a Net outflow of Rs. 33,182 crore in the month of December 2016.

8) AUM of Liquid Funds saw the following movement



Liquid Funds witnessed a Net Inflow of Rs. 56,094 crore from January to December 2016 out of which April to December 2016 Net inflows stood at Rs. 92,205 crore.

9) AUM of Exchange Traded Funds saw the following movement



ETFs witnessed a Net Inflow of Rs. 17,218 crore from January to December 2016 out of which April to December 2016 Net inflows stood at Rs. 12,777 crore.
